The flamboyant Costa Blanca resort will celebrate a 5th gay pride week this September
The local lesbian, gay, transsexual and bisexual association of Benidorm (ALGTB) in conjunction with the town hall have confirmed the dates for Pride weekend as September 12, 13 and 14 plus a series of great events from September 7th.
The gay friendly resort has seen a total transformation and change in perception in recent years from the cheap booze style holiday into (and you heard it here first) the cool and trendy resort it is today. Oh yes it is! Benidorm and in particular the old town where the gay village is located offers the perfect Mediterranean backdrop for one of the newest non-commercial pride events in Europe.
A seven day event when Benidorm showcases the biggest community led gay event of the year culminating in the big colourful parade which runs directly along the famous Levante beach on Saturday September 12th from 5pm ending at the main stage in the purpose built Julio Iglesias arena. Party goers will enjoy a traditional camp Tea Dance and will be entertained FREE in a showcase of amazing local.
Benidorm Pride is a free party week reminiscent of the good old days when people made their own fun in their own way. Benidorm has enjoyed a long gay friendly history dating back to the early 1970's when the first gay bar opened. The safe and friendly tradition continues in the scene of today, offering over twenty five fun and lively intimate bars in the compact gay village.
With over 100 hotels from 5 star to budget within five minutes of the gay village, Benidorm absolutely gives more bang for your euros than any other Mediterranean resort. The super star resort quietly ticks all the boxes in the ‘must try one day‘, list of emerging gay destinations. The best of pride weekend will be in the Gay Village every night until the sun comes up. No door charges or wrist bands required, just a good old fashioned pride in this true community.
The resort is split into three distinct areas each very different. The “late and lively” Playa Levante where most of the big hotels are located, the “lazy days and early to bed” Playa Poniente more sedate and a little bit posh! And the Casco Antiguo or old town where the gay village, best bars, best restaurants, smaller hotels are located and where all the fun is to be had.
Benidorm Pride is the perfect time to say hello to Benidorm for the first time or to say hello again! This year things kick off from Monday September 7 until wind down Sunday on September 13.
